Requirements
In order to qualify for the Digital Scholars summer program students must:
Submit a completed application, including academic transcripts and one letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor or activity leader.
Have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale.
Demonstrate an interest in Computer Science and related fields (e.g., computer engineering, computer and data science, entrepreneurship, etc.).
Express interest in attending the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and apply for admission to UIC for Fall 2023.
Eligible for high school sophomores to graduating Seniors.
(Graduating seniors must be entering UIC, an Illinois Community College, or City Colleges of Chicago in Fall 2022)
Be able to work both independently and in groups.
Express interest in a future career in the Chicago Tech community.
Students accepted into the program must attend a mandatory online orientation meeting with a parent or guardian. The orientation will introduce students to the UIC - DPI Digital Scholars program, expectations, offerings and more.

Submit a copy of your most recent transcript (unofficial grade reports accepted).
Submit the name of a recommender (teacher or activity leader who is familiar with you on a professional and/or academic level).

Exploring Electrical and Computer Engineering
Computer Science 100 (Discovering Computer Science - 3 credit hours)
Description:
Fundamentals of computing; history of computation; computer organization; program design, testing and debugging; web design; computer animation; software tools; societal and legal issues in computing.
Computer Science 111 (Program Design I - 3 credit hours)
Description:
Introduction to programming: control structures; variables and data types; problem decomposition and procedural programming; input and output; aggregate data structures including arrays; programming exercises.
Mobile App Development and Design
Description:
Fundamentals of coding with Swift and foundational knowledge to build and design an app. Students will have the opportunity to design their own app as part of the course and receive mentorship. By the end of the 5 weeks students will have a working prototype.
(Upon completion students MAY be eligible for a stipend).
Data Science Discovery
Description:
Explore the dynamic field of data science with real-world projects and analysis. (Upon completion students MAY be eligible for a stipend).
